Shawn Porter wants Manny Pacquiao after Errol Spence!
WBC “Showtime” welterweight champion Shawn Porter (30-2, 17KO) has a tough job trying to become a unified champion against IBF champion Errol “The Truth” Spence (25-0, 21KO).
However, the 31-year-old Ohio native is aiming for future Hall of Fame inductee and current WBA champion Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao. The WBC champion feels extremely confident for the next unification fight and, if he is victorious, wants the living legend then.
Asked about this fight in an interview with FightHype, the rough and robust fighter gave candid answers.
“I’m just looking at the grand scheme of things and I think if that had been the case, Thurman we would be looking at Thurman again.” We’re obviously looking specifically at this WBA title and looking at who currently holds it. “
“A performance that I will do [against Spence] and then you get out of there and the next challenge is Manny Pacquiao. “
It is indeed a big fight and a challenge on a whole new level. Pacquiao proved there is always a blazing fire in the oven with an impressive performance against then-WBA champion Keith Thurman. The living legend left the boxing community in awe, winning the title in July.
Considering their avowed, prisoner-free styles, the match would be a feast for the fans. Plus, it would bring us closer to an undisputed welterweight champion since Zab “Super” Judah in 2005. However, pumping our brakes as makers think the WBC champion is a serious underdog in the upcoming blockbuster Pay-Per-Vue.
Porter’s confidence is what we love to see in all of our champions. Although, just a little warning, the sport is filled with epic chess stories of guys looking too far ahead instead of focusing on the challenge that lies ahead.
The champion vs. champion fight takes place September 28 at Staples Center in Los Angeles on FOX Pay-Per-View.
